Good ol' days

As in my memories, I remember that I used to hangout with brothers around my neighbourhood who were very older than me, they used to listen to local metal bands like x-mantra, ugrakarma etc on audio tapes, that's when I understood what music could be like and how it had no bounds.

They also used to listen to a very famous band around the local scene at that time and still pretty famous, 'Robin 'n' Looza'. The frontman Robin Tamang is in another band called 'Robin 'n' Revolution' these days. Well, the songs they composed are full of energy and sticks to ur mind right away as you listen. That's how slowly started drowning in the realm of metal music as I used to mime their songs and act like a rockstar.

Then, there is a festival in my country called 'Tihar' which is kinda similar to Halloween but instead of wearing of costumes and going trick or treat we go around the neighbourhood and sing folk songs( kinda like christmas carols). And, some call it perversion but I call it improvisation that people has started to carry the whole set of instruments and perform a small private concert at every place they go and they get paid for that. Actually, the ritual is done in a sense that the ones who go places and sing songs are to regard as the messengers of god.

(THERE ARE 2 DAYS TO GO SING AROUND AND EACH DAY IS ASSIGNED TO MALE AND FEMALE GENDERS, MALE GROUP'S DAY IS CALLED DEUSI AND THE ACT OF SINGING IS CALLED DEUSI AND THE FEMALE GROUP'S DAY IS CALLED BHAILI AND THE ACT OF SINGING THAT DAY IS CALLED BHAILI)

And, people give offerings to the group of deusi or bhaili to please the gods. So, now that has turned into payment to the groups. People used to give a lots of sweets and foods as offerings before, they still do, but nowadays hard cash is much in play.

About 5 years ago, the brothers around my neighbourhood managed a few instruments and gathered us to play songs. We practiced a few pop songs and then went places to play songs. It was lot of fun. That is when I understood the value of having good instruments. Good instruments = good music.

That's all for now, Lastly, our local scene is not that bad. There are really good bands down there. So, I like supporting my underground scene.
